Teens at the Library
Whether you're looking for books on a particular subject for a school assignment or just want something to read, the Teen Area has what you need. Our teen collection includes fiction and nonfiction books, graphic novels, audio books, Newbery award winners, classics, magazines and our ever-popular New Books.
We want you have your own space and be able to read or study or hang out with friends in a welcoming environment. So in the recently redesigned Teen Area, you'll find study tables, a comfortable couch, rocking chairs and footstools. During the Teen Area official hours – 3-8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and all day Saturdays – only teens are allowed.
The Teen Area has three computers and a phone charging station. We recently have acquired both a tv/dvd player and a Wii and have games like Twister and Trivial Pursuit – so when you are done picking out that new stack of books to read, we have plenty to keep you busy. Often on one of the tables you'll find a craft or project you can jump into. Coloring pages, word puzzles, STEM-related activities and do-it yourself projects are always popular.
We’ve also got lots of programs just for teens. Our Minecraft group meets at 6 p.m. every second Tuesday, and in the past year, we've built a giant dome out of cardboard, made pizza from scratch and painted, sewed, hammered, sawed and upcycled a wide variety of things. We've had special presenters who've showed us how to use special effects makeup, grow and use herbs, make our own candles, and create paper circuits with copper tape and LED lights. Check out the events calendar and see what programs are coming up this month.
